Indian cricket has always seen some of the greatest players that can ever be mentioned in cricket history. Whether it is Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli in this generation, cricket is a game that is considered sacred in the Indian sub-continent and these magnificient players have earned themselves a place among the greats from the 19th century. About 2 years ago, former cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement after scoring 100 centuries in world cricket and over 34000 runs overall in every format of the game combined. People thought that his record will be impossible to beat.
But, then comes Virat Kohli who has idolized Sachin his entire life breaking even Sachin’s record and scoring over 8000 runs in just 175 innings. He has now overtaken even AB De Villiers who scored this in about 182 innings. That too, he reached this mark while playing against Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where they dominated over Bangladesh to secure a place in the finals against their arch-rivals Pakistan. Virat Kohli has a worldwide fan following, and all the credit goes to the amazing batting skill he possesses. Even though he failed to maintain the top ranking for a while due to some loose performances in previous matches, his wonderful batting in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 basically helped him raise to the top rank again.
As per the latest Top 10 rankings by MRF Tyres, Virat Kohli has also edged out Australia’s David Warner & AB de Villiers, as mentioned earlier to become the World’s No.1 Batsman. The rankings were recently updated after the last round of group matches in the ongoing ICC tournament in England. Virat Kohli, who had originally entered the tournament on the third position, reclaimed the spot after he scored a couple of amazing fifties and almost a ton in the semi-final against Bangladesh, which he missed just by 4 runs.
India is very proud of Virat and hopes that he continues his blazing from throughout his career because he is just a class above the other batsmen out there.
