Magnesium deficiency is caused generally when people don’t intake the necessary amounts in their bodies. People may not realize it but magnesium is very important to smoothen the bodily functions and according to reports a human must consume atleast about 1.5-3.5 grams of magnesium everyday, failing which the following symptoms/signs may begin to occur:
1. Restlessness, hyperactivity and anxiety
These are some of the most common neurological symptoms of a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is mainly required for proper nerve conduction in the brain cells. Magnesium is also extremely essential to maintain proper electrolyte levels in the body, especially for proper brain function.
2. DEPRESSION
Depression is one of the major signs of magnesium deficiency. The main cause is due to the lack of good nutrition and an improper diet. Apart from anxiety and depression, impaired cognitive function is another common symptom.
3. MUSCLE PAIN
Magnesium primarily helps in muscle relaxation in the body, along with calcium. Neuromuscular symptoms can be an added sign of magnesium deficiency along with other neurological imbalances. Magnesium deficiency mainly leads to an array of symptoms like painful muscle spasms, muscle cramps and tics.
4. NAUSEA AND/OR VOMITING
A magnesium deficiency causes gastrointestinal discomfort and severe vomiting sensations. Nausea is another major symptom of magnesium deficiency that can be very easily identified. Magnesium helps to maintain regular bowel movements and gastrointestinal functions. Low levels lead to severe nauseatic symptoms and vomiting.
5. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
A few studies have revealed that high blood pressure is directly related to low magnesium levels in the body. Hypertension patients are prone more to magnesium deficiency, which thereby leads to a series of symptoms.
6. INSOMNIA
Magnesium helps in controlling the body’s regular sleep and wake cycles. Insomnia and other Chronic illnesses are also often caused due to a deficiency of magnesium in the body.
7. LOW ENERGY
The absence of magnesium in the body basically forces it to work much harder. This eventually results in both physical and psychological stress. Some studies have shown that people with low magnesium levels retain more oxygen in the body. In this case the body consumes more oxygen than necessary and tires itself out. This leads to unwanted physical stress. Magnesium levels also eventually affects the human endurance. This is because a magnesium deficiency impacts the heart and muscle health and exerts unwanted physical stress on the arteries and heart muscles.
